Cookies . What Are Cookies?

Why Cookies are used for on

Cookies are necessary on my website in order to, for instance, make my website work properly and protect my website from spam and/or attacks. 

Most cookies are so-called “session cookies”. They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain stored on your computer until you delete them and allow website operators to recognize your computer again by revisiting their website.

Embedded Content from other Websites and Third-Party-Cookies

Blog articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you, the visitor, have visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

For example: If you watch embedded videos on my website such as from YouTube or Vimeo cookies will be dropped to play the video (and to count views by those platforms).

Social media plugins (e.g. share and follow buttons on my website) use cookies too so that you can share my content or join me on social networks.

Google Fonts

I use Google Fonts on my website. Google clarifies in their Fonts FAQ that no cookies are sent by visitors of websites which use Google Fonts to the Google Fonts API.

  • You can reject the cookies on my website: turn off cookies in your browser. Please note: rejecting cookies may cause some sites on to not function properly. Find out how to disable cookies for your browser: Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Opera.
  • You can delete cookies that are already on your computer: locate the file or directory on your computer/tablet/device that stores cookies. There you’ll find a delete option.

Hosting Provider & Server-LogFiles

The provider of the pages automatically collects and stores information in so-called server log files, which your browser automatically transmits to me:

    • IP address
    • Browser type and browser version
    • used operating system
    • Referrer URL
    • Host name of the accessing computer
  • Time of server request

These data are not directly attributable to specific persons. A merge of this data with other data sources will not be done. This data as well as all data of this website are stored at my hosting provider Hostpoint AG, Neue Jonastrasse 60, 8640 Rapperswil-Jona, Switzerland. 

Google Analytics uses Google Analytics, a popular web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. Google Analytics uses cookies to analyze how you browse my website. Google Analytics helps me to for example:

  • determine the amount of visits my website is receiving at any given time
  • understand your behavior on my website such as the typical length of your stay, which pages you visit or if you download PDFs I offer for free. This helps me to understand which content you like and provide you with more of it.

The information gathered about your use of my website includes your IP address and will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States.

Your IP address is anonymized on my website. A plugin adds the function “_anonymizeIP” which removes the last octet of your IP address prior to its storage.

Security . SSL Certificate

I use SSL encryption on my website which prevents third parties from intercepting browsing information and to protect the transmission of confidential content and personal data. You can recognize the encrypted connection by the address line of the browser which says “https: //” and shows a lock symbol. It’s of great importance to have in mind though that there is no such thing as perfect internet security.

If you email me via my contact form or via an email address this information will be emailed to me:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • your message
  • time and date of your message 

In order to be able to respond to you and your request, this information will be stored. I will not share this information without your consent.


If you comment on a blog post on my website, this information will be stored in my website database:

  • your name
  • your email address
  • your website (if you mentioned it)
  • your IP address
  • browser user agent string to help spam detection
  • your message
  • date and time of your comment

If you leave a comment, I assume that you want it to be published on my website. All comments are moderated by me. If your comment is approved, it is published on otherwise it will be deleted immediately. Your email and IP address will not be published on my website. If you wish your comment to be removed from my website, write me using this email address

The following information is viewable by the general public on my website after I have approved your comment:

  • your name
  • your website address (if mentioned)
  • your comment
  • date and time of your comment

Why is this information about you visible on my website? Comments are common on blogs. Your name adds authenticity to your comment. It’s also possible for you to promote your own blog/website since its address is published on my website. You are free to use a nickname by the way and to not mention your website.

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service.

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

What Rights You Have Over Your Data

If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you at any time, including any data you have provided to me.

You can also request that I erase any data I hold about you at any time. This does not include any data I may be obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
